According to Baseball Reference, in 2022 the MLB league-wide batting average was .243. You need to go back 54 years, to 1968, to find a time when the league had a lower batting average (.237). Do you know what happened after the 1968 season? The league lowered the pitcher's mound by 5 inches to its current height of 10 inches.
Well, we know the height of the mound isn't changing in 2023. But what this does emphasize is that those players with the types of ct%s and xBAs that we have historically targeted in H2H formats are becoming more scare and hence more valuable.
