How BABS asset groups uncover profit opportunities

The BABS Project ebook (PDF links here) describes how each player’s talent profile places them into a group with others of comparable skills, called “asset groups.” These groups describe skills in broad terms, allowing for normal statistical variability. You might think a player who hits 35 home runs is better than one who hits 30, but, you know, it could be five errant gusts of wind. Statistical output is just not that precise. In the end, both players are basically the same. 

The marketplace has its own way of evaluating talent. A value is placed on each player based on some general criteria. In declining order of impact, more or less:

  • Performance history, highly influenced by the most recent performance
  • Health...
