Erasmo Ramirez will get a start in Seattle, Jesse Chavez will replace Brandon Morrow in Toronto, and Jonathan Sanchez returns to Kansas City. Which of these are worth your fantasy dollars?

The struggling Tigers have acknowledged the need to make some changes, and a first step was taken with the demotion of Ryan Raburn (2B, DET) to AAA-Toledo. While in Cleveland, Travis Hafner is headed for knee surgery.

Manager Davey Johnson announced Tuesday that Henry Rodriguez (RHP, WAS) is being removed from the closer role and being replaced by a committee consisting of Tyler Clippard (RHP, WAS), Sean Burnett (LHP, WAS), and Craig Stammen (RHP, WAS) until Drew Storen (RHP, WAS) returns from the DL around July 1. The committee was officially launched on Tuesday night, with Clippard getting the first save opportunity and converting. Let's see what skills each brings to the table.

Alex Presley (OF, PIT) entered the season as a popular sleeper in many fantasy leagues after a mini-breakout campaign in 2011, but he hit only .220 in his first 118 AB. He has especially struggled over the past three weeks, going only three for 44 since April 29. His problems have been largely of his own making, as he's given back all of the skills growth that fueled last season's breakout.

Kevin Youkilis (3B, BOS) was due to sit out his fourth consecutive game with back problems on Wednesday, and word out of Boston was that his back pains were "only intensifying, not abating." Then, he was placed on the DL and prospect Will Middlebrooks was called up from AAA-Pawtucket and made the start Wednesday night.

Tim Hudson (RHP, ATL) was solid in his final rehab start at AAA Gwinnett on Tuesday, and he is scheduled to join the Atlanta rotation on Sunday versus the light-hitting Pirates. And in San Francisco, Nate Schierholtz has started 11 of the past 13 games, with the promise of continued playing time on the immediate horizon.

Mark Melancon (RHP, BOS) lived a nightmare against the Texas Rangers on Tuesday night, allowing a walk, a double, and three home runs without recording an out. For the season, Melancon has now allowed 11 ER in only two innings, for a 49.50 ERA. He has taken two losses and was removed from the set-up role in the season's first week. Melancon has options remaining, and on Wednesday he was sent to AAA-Pawtucket in an effort to let him straighten out his mechanics and clear his head. How does his demotion affect the Red Sox pen?

[FREE] Dustin Moseley's (RHP, SD) MRI on his sore shoulder came back much worse than expected, and with Tim Stauffer (RHP, SD) still on DL, the Padres have been forced to change their rotation for their final game in Arizona and their upcoming series with the Dodgers. Moseley's MRI showed "extensive damage," and while no timetable has been set for his return, it is clear that he's likely to miss far more than the minimum 15 DL days.

Adam Lind (1B, TOR) has been shut down for at least three days with stiffness in his lower back. He is scheduled to take batting practice on Friday, March 30. The Blue Jays are treating this as a potentially serious issue, since Lind spent 27 days on the DL last season with the same problem. As we know, back problems tend to linger and recur. Manager John Farrell acknowledged that Lind's back would need to be monitored throughout the season. What are the Blue Jays options?
Mar 28 2012 11:05pm
Daniel Bard (RHP, BOS) has struggled in spring training, with a 7.11 ERA, ten walks, and only six strikeouts in 12.2 IP. Word out of Boston is that the Red Sox may abandon their plan to move Bard to the rotation and return him to the pen. If that happens, it seems likely that Felix Doubront (LHP, BOS) and Alfredo Aceves (RHP, BOS) would claim the final two rotation spots.

Salvador Perez (C, KC) will need surgery for a torn meniscus in his left knee sustained during warm-ups Tuesday. There has been no announcement about how much time he'll miss, but it seems almost certain that Brayan Pena (C, KC) will open the season as the Royals starting catcher. Does Pena have any skills that might make him useful on a fantasy roster? Here is what he's shown us in his past two full seasons in the majors.
