A nine-player deal completed August 25 confirmed that LA is willing to spend at all costs under new ownership to become a perennial contender, while BOS unloaded $270M in salary in the midst of a very disappointing 2012 campaign. How does this blockbuster trade affect PT in BOS and LA? Also, lots of pitcher shuffling between DL, bullpen, and starting rotation...

Injuries continue to deplete both TOR and COL lineups. It was announced that Christian Friedrich (LHP, COL) is going to miss the rest of the season, and Michael Cuddyer (1B/OF, COL) could miss up to three weeks with an oblique strain. Tyler Colvin (RF, COL) will get his opportunity for regular PT. Meanwhile, TOR called up prospect Adeiny Hechavarria (SS, TOR) and put him at a brand new position to offset the losses of Colby Rasmus (CF, TOR) and Brett Lawrie (3B, TOR).

Though initially thought to be just mild soreness, Drew Smyly (LHP, DET) finds himself back on the DL for the second time in a month. Top prospect Jacob Turner will take Smyly's slot, but how long will he be needed? Also, one day after being named the fill in start for ATL at SS, Jack Wilson (SS, ATL) dislocates his right pinky prompting a trade for Paul Janish (SS, ATL)...

After losing Kyle Drabek (RHP, TOR) and Brandon Morrow (RHP, TOR) to injuries this week, the Blue Jays' Drew Hutchison left the June 16th game with a sprained right UCL. Hutchison had just started to find his groove, posting PQS 5-5-3 in his prior 3 starts. Who will get the starts for the injured 60% of TOR's rotation?

Daisuke Matsuzaka (RHP, BOS) returned to BOS rotation Saturday, after more than a year since his last start. A solid, though not spectacular, outing provides owners hope that he is trending more towards his minor league rehab numbers than his last 250 major league innings. Within the same division, BAL Opening Day starter Jake Arrieta (RHP, BAL) was sent to the bullpen due to some very unlucky surface stats.

Lance Lynn (RHP, STL) has an ERA of 1.33 with 24 Ks and 6 BBs through his first four starts. Over that same period of time, he has thrown PQS 5-4-4-5. This has eased the loss of Chris Carpenter (RHP, STL) to injury and so far validated management's decision not to acquire Roy Oswalt (RHP). Do Lynn's skills support his torrid start, and how secure is his spot in the STL rotation?

Marlon Byrd (OF, BOS) was traded to the Red Sox on April 21st for a team ravaged by injuries to their outfield. What can BOS expect from Byrd and who gets the PT left in CHI? Also, Michael Pineda (RHP, NYY) was shut down after just 15 pitches in his first rehab start. What does this mean for the his chances of cracking the rotation this season with Andy Pettitte (LHP, NYY) close to returning.?

On Opening Day 2012, Andres Torres (OF, NYM) re-aggravated a calf injury forcing him to the DL. The Mets called up 24 year-old prospect Kirk Nieuwenhuis to fill that roster spot, hoping he can provide quality starts in CF. He will have his opportunity to prove his value in the coming weeks...will he be able to earn playing time over Scott Hairston (OF, NYM) and even Torres upon his return?

Devin Mesoraco (C, CIN) is considered a top catching prospect by most minor-league scouts. Ryan Hanigan (C, CIN) hits league-average with little power, but provides experience and consistent production. Who will win the fight for playing time?

The Oakland Athletics signed Yoenis Cespedes to a four-year deal on February 13. If Cespedes wins a starting spot in the outfield, which player may find himself the odd man out?

The New York Yankees significantly upgraded their rotation on January 13 by trading for Michael Pineda (RHP, NYY) and signing free agent Hiroki Kuroda (RHP, NYY). Pineda and Kuroda will join C.C. Sabathia (LHP, NYY) and Ivan Nova in the Yankees rotation, leaving Phil Hughes (RHP, NYY), A.J. Burnett (RHP, NYY), Freddy Garcia (RHP, NYY) to battle for the fifth rotation spot.
