Starting pitchers are arguably the hardest group for fantasy owners to get their heads around. Hitters are generally more consistent from one year to the next, and closers are more of a black-and-white case, where they either have a ninth-inning gig or they don’t. But because starters make only about 30 appearances per season, their statistics tend to fluctuate wildly. And owners have a variety of approaches to the starting pitching pool, with some owners targeting high-strikeout starters, others looking for hurlers who limit homers and free passes, and some owners seeking starters in favorable situations (home parks, strong bullpens etc.). But no matter how a pitching staff is assembled, getting helpful production is the obvious goal....
