Back in the off-season, I wrote about an interesting exercise we conducted at First Pitch Arizona last fall. We assembled 12 of our speakers and had them participate in a very different type of mock draft.
In this draft, owners selected players that they would have to keep for five full seasons.
Drafting for five years requires a significant change to underlying draft strategies. Beyond the skills upsides we looked for in 2013 picks, factors such as age and health play a much greater role.
In this mock, we only drafted through six rounds. I wondered what it would look like if we conducted a full draft and played it out... for five years. We conducted just such a draft earlier this week, with two of our writers and 10 subscribers.
