ROTISSERIE: Is the era of the first-round pitcher over?

Note: for the purposes of this article, Shohei Ohtani is not included as a starting pitcher, as a significant portion of his value lies in his hitting.

In 2021, only four pitchers crossed the 200 IP mark—by far the lowest number in MLB history in a non-strike/non-COVID year. Only two pitchers finished in the top 15 in 2021 (Max Scherzer and Walker Buehler). While this last point may seem like a big deal, it's a pretty typical season, where two to four pitchers will finish as first-rounders.
