DR HQ: Pedroia, Freeman, Weaver, Aoki head to DL

Dustin Pedroia (2B, BOS)
Injury: Strained right hamstring – grade 1
DL date: June 25
Estimated DL time: The Red Sox believe Pedroia’s injury isn’t that severe, and they debated whether he should go on the DL or not. He’ll be back in 15-18 days.

Nori Aoki (OF, SF)
Injury: Fractured right fibula
DL date: June 21
Estimated DL time: The initial tests done on his fibula did not reveal a fracture, suggesting the fracture is small in nature. He also is lucky it’s the fibula and not the weight-bearing tibia. He’ll be in a cast for at least 14 days, and Aoki is likely to miss at least four weeks.

Jered Weaver (RHP, LAA)
Injury: Inflammation left hip
DL date: June 21
Estimated DL time: He is in shutdown mode for five days then he’ll resume light throwing to test the hip. Diagnostic tests ruled out any structural damage to the hip. Weaver could be out until after the break (26 days). If he responds favorably to the rest and treatment, however, there is an outside chance he could pitch once before the break.

Freddie Freeman (1B, ATL)
Injury: Contusion right wrist
DL date: Retro to June 18
Estimated DL time: This nagging injury isn’t considered serious though the Braves aren’t sure if he will return just before or after the all-star break. This injury could cause Freeman to struggle with his power a bit once he returns.

Brendan Ryan (SS, NYY)
Injury: Thoracic strain – right side of the chest wall.
DL date: June 22
Estimated DL time: This is not a common injury, and I can’t recall the last time it occurred in a baseball player. He is out indefinitely until further information is released.

Corey Hart (1B, PIT)
Injury: Impingement – left shoulder
DL date: June 23
Estimated DL time: He suffered the injury during batting practice. He’s out indefinitely; though we expect him back just before the all-star break.

Dale Thayer (RHP, SD)
Injury: Strained pitching shoulder
DL date: Retro to June 17
Estimated DL time: Thayer is out until just after the break. If he’s able to regain his shoulder strength, he’ll pick up where he left off when the injury occurred.

Travis d'Arnaud (C, NYN)
Injury: Hyperextended left elbow
DL date: June 21
Estimated DL time: Reportedly the Mets are concerned about the damage in the elbow though details have not been released. Plan on d’Arnaud being out until just after the all-star break.

Mason Williams (OF, NYY)
Injury: Inflammation right shoulder
DL date: Retro to June 20
Estimated DL time: Diagnostic tests ruled out any structural damage, and the Yankees believe all he has is some inflammation in the shoulder. He’ll be back in less than a month.

Jake Marisnick (OF, HOU)
Injury: Strained left hamstring – grade 1
DL date: Retro June 19
Estimated DL time: It appears he’ll need about three weeks of treatment and rehab before he’s ready for activation. This malady is likely to have a negative impact on his stolen base attempts early in his return.
