Halladay suffered a borderline Grade One/Two strain of the latissimus (known as the Lat, even in couch potato circles) dorsi muscle. Looking at the graphic below, Halladay’s problem area reportedly is the top of the muscle (red area) a bit toward the outside, which is why he thought he was having posterior shoulder problems. (This is the same area where Jake Peavy suffered a detachment of the entire top portion of this muscle where it attached to the bone.)
